In the post “Purpose” that I did back in August, I talked a little bit about how Genesis 1 is God’s mission statement.

In this post I want to develop that idea a little further.

Amos 3:7 says, “The Lord does nothing without first revealing it to His servants the prophets.” Some translations even say without revealing “His secret plans” to His servants the prophets.

In Matthew, Jesus talks a lot about the secret things, the hidden things of God and the kingdom, and how they will in due time be revealed. God Himself is invisible and “unseen” by those who refuse to see, but His works are obvious to those with eyes and ears.

As I look yet again at Genesis 1, I realize that it has all been there from the beginning, but who has eyes to see it?

I grew up thinking that all of Genesis 1 was in the past. Humans as I see them are the crowning achievement of creation, made in God’s image. So, what we look like, must be what God is like. And how we act? Is that what God is like?

No. Tares. Jesus says both “wheat and tares” were sown, but at the harvest they will be separated and the kingdom will go to the wheat, not the tares.

The wheat are the ones who “see” and “hear” what God is, and take it to heart. They are people of substance who share His vision of Life.

The tares are people who stubbornly refuse to see what God is and to be a part of what He is doing, and their “lives” are vain and empty things– “Void and Formless” unlives, the children of the chaos waters, the abyss.

So what is Day 6? It is where we are now, in the forming of a Man and a Woman who rule and subdue the earth as Heaven’s regents. Not in a “me first” and oppressive way that leads to pollution and extinction, but in a way that leads to the Blessing of God – “Be fruitful and multiply.” Where Life is abundant and everything is in harmony and rest.

The day of choosing is now, and it ends with God’s mission complete. The Man – Jesus ruling and subduing “on earth as it is in heaven.” The Woman – The Church – working at His side just as the Spirit works to bring the Father’s vision to fruition.

Genesis 1 is the invitation to you and me to come and be His prophet. We have the opportunity to know His secret plan and embrace it, partner with it, and become a piece of the Image of Him in the world. Do you have eyes to see it, to dream it and believe it?
